Step 1: Prepare the Drawing

• Ages 12–16: Use a fixative spray to protect your pencil, charcoal, or pastel drawing. Ask a parent or guardian to help—spray in a well-ventilated area and keep your hands and face away.
• Ages 16–19: You can use fixative on your own, following the same safety tips.

Step 2: Protect the Surface

• Place a clean sheet of tracing paper, wax paper, or glassine over the drawing.
• This prevents smudging when it’s packaged.

Step 3: Add a Sturdy Backing

• Put the drawing on a piece of sturdy cardboard or poster board that’s slightly bigger than the drawing.
• This keeps it from bending.

Step 4: Cushion the Edges

• Use strips of foam or bubble wrap around the edges of the drawing to protect the corners.

Step 5: Wrap the Drawing

• Wrap the whole drawing in a layer of bubble wrap or foam.
• Tape the wrap gently, but don’t tape directly onto the artwork.

Step 6: Box It

• Place the wrapped drawing in a rigid box slightly larger than the drawing.
• Fill empty spaces with crumpled paper or foam so it doesn’t move inside the box.

Step 7: Seal and Label

• Tape the box shut securely.
• Write “FRAGILE – ARTWORK” on the outside.

Step 1: Prepare the Sculpture

• Make sure the sculpture is fully dry and hardened (clay, plaster, or paint fully set).
• Remove any loose parts or fragile pieces if possible and pack them separately.

Step 2: Wrap the Sculpture

• Wrap the sculpture in bubble wrap, covering every part.
• Use extra layers for delicate parts like thin arms, fingers, or protruding edges.
• Tape the bubble wrap lightly, but don’t stick tape directly on the sculpture.

Step 3: Cushion the Base

• Place a thick layer of packing foam, crumpled paper, or peanuts at the bottom of a sturdy box.
• This acts as a soft “bed” for the sculpture.

Step 4: Place the Sculpture in the Box

• Put the wrapped sculpture in the center of the box.
• Fill all remaining spaces around it with foam, crumpled paper, or packing peanuts so it cannot shift.
• Make sure the sculpture doesn’t touch the box walls directly.

Step 5: Seal the Box

• Close the box and tape all edges securely.
• Write “FRAGILE – HANDLE WITH CARE” on all sides.

Step 6: Optional – Double Box for Extra Safety

• For very fragile or heavy sculptures, place the first packed box inside a slightly bigger box with more cushioning material between the two boxes.
• This adds extra shock protection during transport.

1. Pick a box or mailer
   • Use something a bit bigger than your item so it won’t get squished.
   • For small things like gloves or scarves, a padded envelope can work.
2. Fold neatly
   • Fold the item carefully so it stays neat.
   • Smooth out wrinkles lightly with your hands—don’t iron unless needed.
3. Add a protective layer
   • Wrap the item in tissue paper, a plastic bag, or bubble wrap.
   • This stops it from rubbing against the box or other items.
4. Cushion the edges
   • Place foam, extra tissue, or bubble wrap around the sides of the box.
   • Make sure the item is snug but not squished.
5. Place the item in the box
   • Lay it flat or folded neatly in the center.
   • Make sure nothing is sticking out that could get crushed.
6. Add extra padding on top
   • Put a layer of bubble wrap or tissue on top of the item.
   • This keeps it from moving around when the box is lifted.
7. Seal the box
   • Close the box and tape it securely on all edges.
   • Make sure the tape sticks well so the box doesn’t open in transit.
8. Label clearly
   • Write the address and any “Fragile” notes if needed.
   • Double-check that the label is readable and won’t peel off.

Tips for Safety & Ease:

• Always work on a flat surface.
• Keep scissors and box cutters away from fingers.
• Don’t overfill the box—it can burst.
• For very small or delicate items, extra layers of tissue or bubble wrap help a lot.
